Producer Note (02.10.2008): Free CTS, Halloween, C11

Greetings Fringies,

Let's get the big question out of the way right away, yes; I have low-pop server news for you.

To help address the server population concerns that have been brought up by the community we will be implementing a Free Character Transfer program early next year. I do not have specific dates to announce now, but I do know that it will only run for a limited time. Any transfers made before the program kicks off will not be refunded. Additional details on this Free CTS program will be revealed closer to its start date. Also, to help clear some land on the servers, we will be running another House Pack-Up right around that same time. Both programs will have some cool rewards associated with them (marketing made me say that SMILEY ).

As a huge lover of Halloween, monsters, horror films, and everything frightening one of the most exciting projects for me to work on since I've joined the team has been the Galactic Moon Festival. Our first ever Halloween event, the Galactic Moon Festival is poised to launch to the community at large on October 14th and will run through November 7th. Moenia and Mos Eisley have both been transformed into haunted attractions for all Galaxies players to visit. The cities and rewards look brilliant. I am particularly fond of the Galactic Moon Festival painting which depicts the Galactic Moon Festival organizer, Z'ozpheratu, in a dramatic pose. Swede, AdeptStain, and the art team all did a bang up job on bringing the Festival to life. This new annual event is sure to become a favorite for fans of all things macabre. The details of the event are as follows...

Jabba the Hutt has decided to throw the scariest festival of the year in both Moenia (on Naboo) and Mos Eisley (on Tatooine). He has ordered the cities to be fully decorated with fog, spiders, gravestones, scarecrows, and numerous other creepy items. He is encouraging all citizens of the Galaxy to visit the Galactic Moon Festival organizer, Z'ozpheratu, to obtain a costume and go trick or treating for Galactic Moon Coins. Z'ozpheratu will also be providing trick or treat devices to costumed citizens so that they can attempt to scare any folks who are stingy with their coins. Galactic Moon Coins can be redeemed with Z'ozpheratu for exciting rewards. Jabba has even provided a reward that is exclusive to Entertainers that will bring notes of joy to everyone's ears.

There are a lot of neat goodies associated with this event. I am going to be in there myself trying to get as many of them as I can. I look forward to seeing what all the interior decorators around the Galaxy will come up with!

Of course we have Hoth on the horizon as well. I hope everybody has been keeping up with the Friday Feature "sneak peeks" that we've been putting out as they offer a nice glimpse into what the team has been sweating away on for the past few months. The team members are still all stapled to their desks polishing it up and fixing bugs. We are at a stage now where we are play testing the instance several times per week and implementing the feedback that comes out of those play tests to ensure the experience is as fun as we can make it. The scope of this Heroic is unlike anything we've released before. It will be larger than any previous content push outside of our full expansions. The Hoth chapter will also include a cool Snow Machine as a publish gift (marketing made me say that, too).

Until next time, I hope everybody has an excellent Halloween!

Otazky a odpovede:

Q: Thank you for the information, Dotanuki.

Good to hear on the pack-up--it is very badly needed. I really need more information on the transfers. How will crafters and their resources be addressed with this solution? Another big issue is crated items that crafters make in factories. Those are another thing that cannot currently be transferred.

A: The transfer system is being updated to be much more robust. Resources and crated items made in factories will transfer.

Q: About time!

...will the same number of servers still exist, or will some be removed? What will happen if you have a toon on a server which gets shut down, and you're not around to transfer your characters (Military tours of duty, holidays, absences from the game for family or work-related reasons)?

A: No servers are shutting down. It's just a Free Character Transfer.

Q: I'm kind of curious about this, will it be a "free for all" free CTS or are there going to be restrictions on which server can move from and move to? I personally think a "free for all" type of free CTS could be disasterous, where a more directed approach could bring more servers up to the level of a Bria, Bloodfin, Starsider...

A: While we have not finalized the details, we do expect that there will be some limitation on the Free CTS in order to ensure that the event actually addresses population concerns.

Q: In addition to whether the CTS will allow resources and crates to transfer before the free transfer is implemented, will resources retain their existing name and stats?

A: Transferred resources will retain their same stats.

Q: Thanks for the update Dotanuki.

In regards to the "gifts" for packing up structures, will these not be the current Xeno line of furniture we could earn last time around? Many people wanted to get this and the pack up event was highly exploited by many to no only get the furniture reward but both badges as well. Since the furniture was No Trade, a lot of people missed out and the hope was that they'd be able to get a chance to get some in future pack up events. Will this not be the case?

A: The gifts will be a mixture of old and new items.

Q: looking forward to the Halloween event and Hoth. I realize that Devs proboly cant tell us more than what was posted here, but I have to ask, once the event is over would we still get to keep the 'costumes'? This reminds me of the Halloween events that CoX (City of Heroes/Villains) puts on every year. Get costumes, walk up to a door, trick or treat (trick spawns a group of monsters, treat is usually a nice XP boost or powerup). Still very much looking forward to them regardless.

A: The "costumes" literally transform you into another creature for a limited time. Think of it like getting a costume buff. Because of this, no, you do not get to keep them.

Q: Has there been any further news since you last comment about getting this as an ability in the Storyteller system? We have been asking for it for a long time, before it was even announced as going in with the Halloween celebration.

I can't over-emphasize how useful this would be in telling our stories, year-round. With the loss of Pex and Event Support, this would really go a long way to helping us recover.

Thank you!

A: It's still something we would like to do for you folks but due to other immediate commitments there has been no motion on it thus far.

We haven't forgotten about the request though.
