Hi Folks,

I am very pleased let everyone know that we will be releasing Chapter 7: A Collection of Heroes to the live service tomorrow. This chapter introduces two fantastic new systems to the game: The Collection system is a great way of exploring the universe and being rewarded for your adventures with great rewards and a wonderful way of sharing your prowess with your friends through the collection journal, while the Heroic Encounter system allows us to created tightly scripted and challenging content that gives you and your group a chance to experience some signature Star Wars moments in game. Obviously getting two large systems in game in a single chapter has been challenging, and I appreciate the patience folks have shown as we have tested this release over the last few weeks, but I think you will agree once it goes live that it was well worth it.

As we move forward we will be introducing more collections and heroics into the game on a regular basis. My intention in the coming year is to make sure that there is always something new for you to do in Star Wars Galaxies and we will be adjusting how we do things to ensure a steady stream of content, updates, and new systems on a timely basis.

The team is now fully engaged in Chapter 8, and I know that people are excited by the possibility of new content in Space. It has certainly been too long since we have devoted some effort to the pilot community and I know they are going to enjoy the additions we are making to their gameplay. Of course, ground pounders will find plenty to like in Chapter 8 as well, as we will be introducing some space based content for them as well. We will be releasing more info on Chapter 8 in the coming weeks through Friday Features and other channels.

I am also pleased to let folks know that we have three new engineering devs starting in the coming week and we are anxious to get them up to speed so that we can really ratchet up some of the programming fixes and enhancements that I know everyone wants. Please be nice to them when they introduce themselves on the boards SMILEY (we need these guys remember...). This is really a great team of game makers on Star Wars and the new folks we are adding will really allow us to get even more done (and maybe let some folks spend more evenings at home).

That's it for now...Enjoy Chapter 7 and have a great and safe Halloween.

Otazky a odpovede - DeadMeat:

Q: Any chance the Tusken encounter will be fixed? if not in time for release, it would be great to have it fixed in one of the 7.x patches.

I really wanna see some meds helping about or a Y-wing swooping down and bombing those warlords! (or whatever those buildings are meant to be doing)

A: Those problems were fixed in the latest build, that will be up on the TC's once the servers have reloaded (they are patching right now).

Q: I have not done even half of the collections.

However I got to admit the way you got Collections displayed is by far better then the simple badge listing of old.

A: QA has run through all of the collections multiple times so I feel pretty confident it is all good to go (but please keep running them on TCPrime...You never know).

Q: DM,
Do you guys have a final count as to exactly how many collections have been released for this build? For all of us keeping track at home, this would be good information to know for the future as you will continue to add to it.

A: Last official count was 93...But I think we may have added two more after that.

Q: Glad to see this hitting live!

Any chance you or some other red names can visit the pilot's forum and let us in on your intentions for Chap 8? Most of us want Chap 8 to be about piloting and not ground content in space, and anything you can let us in on now will reduce to number of torches and pitchforks later

A: I'll make sure that some designers stop in and visit. With chapter 8, aside from the new ships and such, we are trying to find ways of getting pilots and the ground players more involved with each other. There are some challenges there, and I cannot say that we have worked out all of the problems yet, but I think in the long run this is good for the game. I know that we cannot give pilots everything they may want with C8, but I can say that moving forward we will make sure that we keep content coming in the space game as well as the ground one, and C8 is a down payment on that commitment.

Q: Just a little thought DM, is it possible to put a few collections for us space folks....idk, maybe server first for killing 1000000000000 Imps SMILEY<img src=" /> of course with space rewards

A: Oh yeah...I can assure you that C8 extends collections into space. We wouldn't want you guys to miss out on the fun.

Q: can we have an IG-88 miniature in tha game? my dad just had to bring up me breaking his big one when i was just a little girl....he did this cause he heard we was killing IG-88 in game now......dad: "ooohhh looky looky!!! to bad that video game wasnt here for you to break when you broke my IG-88!!!! you like breaking IG-88's dont you!!!"

holidays are so much fun for family to visit and complain about past star wars fiascos...and for my neise to run around saying mustard fart cause she cant pronouce mustifar SMILEY<img src=" />

IG-88 finally in tha game F T W!!!!! but can we have an IG-88 toy? pretty please? SMILEY<img src=" />

A: Heheh...I feel like I was there. An IG-88 statuette? I think C7 must be the answer to your childhood dreams!

Q: Mr. Meat I know you probably get tired of being asked this. Is there going to be server merges? I've been to some of the less populated servers and it must be really sad to have characters you love on dead servers. The very light ones and such. Any idea on server merges? I know you said free character transfers and to what end? Well to the end of people logging in to no one being online on their friends lists of course. You said before that the system is not in place but how did you get rid of the japanese servers then?

A: I committed earlier this year to not pursue server merges for 2007. And I can assure you that we would never merge servers onto existing servers, but there are a ton of issues with it even if we wanted to. I will start a dialog on this next year with the community to see what people want and how we can best make that happen.

Free server transfer is not simply saying you do not have to enter a credit card. It would be a system that has to interact with the game worlds to ensure that we can control things like how many times and from where and to where a character can transfer. This may sound easy, but it is actually not something we can do now and involves the operations and platform side of SOE, which means that we have to schedule the work within their priorities. IIt is not like I can just assign one of my programmers to it.

Q: I think the biggest worry will be, will any of the core mechanics of piloting be changed? Or, will it be more along the lines of adding content and adding places for ground pounders to be taken?

A: No core mechanics change for space. It is a skill game and we will be leaving it that way.

Q: Speaking of program fixes.... Is there a chance to maybe look at fixing the long standing issue of the LOS bug that has been here since the beginning of the game? Maybe sometime after chapter 8 is done? This is something that has bugged the community for a very, very long time. With the new crew, maybe somebody can take on this daunting task!? A whole chapter even for LOS may be needed. (a few of those devoted new greenies, to break them in a little bit! SMILEY<img src=" /> )?

Thanks for any replies!

A: Chapter 11...The Line-of-Sight chapter! Marketing will love that SMILEY. Seriously we will look at this more now that we have the additional engineering bandwidth, but it is not a simple problem.

Q: DM, as excited as I am about the new content (been on test alot), I really, really hope you guys reconsider your lock out policy. Its almost sadisitic to finally release content then slap lockouts on it.

Im fine with lockouts for SUCCESSFUL completion of the instance. But, since if you dont complete them, you get no loot or really anything else except a trip to the cloner, I wish you would remove lockouts for everything but successful completion.

Also, consider, no new grouping tools have been added to the game, like the smedster mentioned a few years back. When we get a grp together, it can be a challenge. Then to say..."ooops lockout, gotcha" Is pretty harsh given the current state of alot of server pops....

What purpose does a lockout server when the instance wasnt finished, no loot was received, and the players actually want to experience the content again when they have a grp together to do it?????

A: You get an hour for Axkva and IG-88, and two hours for the Tusken King to successfully complete an encounter. That really gives you 4 hours a night at this point to be unsuccessful. As we add more encounters that will be even more time. We will keep track of things and see how they progress once in live, but we do know that we do not want the limited numbers of instances we have to be monopolized by a single group.

Q: Thanks for the update DM.

Top item in my own Chapter 8 wishlist is the ability for players to get to a POB already in orbit without the pilot landing. The interior of the Yacht is just awesome and we'd love to have parties there, but people currently aren't able to come and go as they please. The ability to leave the ship is already in place via eject, we just gotta get them up there. Maybe something like how camps with shuttles work? SMILEY<img src=" />

A: We may get some of the base infrastructure we need to get that to work in place in C8, but probably not enough to include that with the release. I think it is a great idea and the problem has some symmetry with some of the other systems we are trying to get working so that we will be closer to it when the chapter is done.

Q: DM, hope there is a small chance we are getting at least one space station.

Even if its just a Tansari clone (including artwork), I certainly won't mind. Just remove the quest giver NPCs (or leave them as placeholders for future possibilities), but please, we really need at least one station where pilots can land and still call home.

A: Space station! Agreed! I think that is *very* likely.

Q: can i have the private email of the new guy in charge of the UI rebuild so i can let him know my expectations?

A: Nope.

Q: You rock Mr. Meat (Mr. Meat should always be in bold to emphasise the Meat) Great work your whole team did over there on chapter 7 and thanks, I'm sure that question makes you want to pull hair out.

What about a system where if you have a existing account active for so and so amount of days when you start a character on another server you get some form of EXP bonus to leveling quicker.(not GCW) To promote people moving to populated server on their own. I dunno, my heart just goes out to the servers where eisley is empty 95% of the time.

A: Hmmm...I don't think we would make that kind of system, but keep thinking. I know we will find a solution that everyone can live with...(Well maybe not *Everyone*, but a lot).

Q: Now that you have more engineers can we please go back to more professions that can be mixed and matched. I wont call for a CU clone I would rather see the old way of leveling and skill sets be brought into this game. I have played all 9 profs and I get quite bored with the same old thing. I'd rather be able to regrind into different profs and pick the skill sets I want to use.

A: I don't see a major revamp to the profession system on the horizon. Perhaps more specialization like Beast Master, but not a complete rewrite. I think this community has seen enough of those SMILEY.

Q: Hey DM since they are hammering out on space anyword if they are going to fix the PoB engine bug?

A: Since a few of the new ships are PoB's I suspect we will be looking at the whole system. The specific bug you are referring to does not immediately come to mind, but be sure that it has been /bug'd (we probably are already tracking it but it is better to be safe). Also talk to your senator as well to be sure they have it on their short list.

Q: **edit**... not that good for a german player on gorath! For me this means the Servers will be down till 9 PM german time and the worst thing is, Thursday is a public holiday here SMILEY<img src=" />

I was looking forward to spend some time playing, now i can sit in front off my pc, waiting for the servers to come up and go to bed schort after they are online SMILEY<img src=" />

@DM pls hurry or let the servers go down 4 hours earlier or something SMILEY<img src=" /> SMILEY<img src=" />

A: Heh...Sorry, I know that patching events are a pain for our European Brothers, but it is a global operation that is handled out of the US Pacific time zone.

Q: Also! Grats on the new dev members you get!! However I got a little question, is these guys hired to fill out SWG-Swede's spot (think there were 1 other who left too recently) or are these new "addition" to the team... Like the team has grown SMILEY<img src=" />

Else thanks for update DM!

A: Yes...The new engineers represent a net growth. Although Swede was a designer.

Q: Very nice deadmeat!! *thumbsup* Sounds like you have a good team and great help with the 3 additional engineers. Looking forward to seeing Ch7 tomorrow and ch8 when it is ready.

Question as this was something I didn't expect to see, however we in the pilot community has been begging for months if not a few years now =P Ground pounders in space. Is this to mean we may have some boardable ships, perferrable GCW based? Static stations similar to the weapons depot on Naboo, Talus and Corellia that can be both attacked by ship, then boarded to take over? And standard content similar to the Avatar Platform?

Thanks and looking forward to all of this.

A: The exact mechanics of this I do not want to talk about yet since we have not quite gotten it to work, but yes in abstract we are shooting for something like this. Probably not GCW (in the game sense) though.

Q: Ohh, yea, remember now, he had a big role in building JTL right? SMILEY<img src=" />

A: Right...And I could sure use him now SMILEY. But such is the nature of the business.

Q: Would a more Expertise style Weapon Specialization be possible with this type of system? Allowing each profession to select a Specialized weapon of choice rather then one being handed to them? Might need it's own point system though to work.

A: Perhaps...Again, any changes would be along this line. But this type of system is very difficult to get balanced and we would always be cautious about it.

Q: ou've just lost 2000 points of Imperial faction standing!

This is my biggest complaint with Chapter 7 - Zero GCW content. *sigh* I'm affraid I'm going to have to demote you to Private.

A: Heh...The story of my life.

Q: Deadmeat,

Will we see improvements to Smuggler inbetween Chapter 7 and 8 as promised?

I sent you a PM about it as well.

A: God...Did I promise something like that? Someone is going to have my * for that. In all honesty I see this team completely focused on C8 for the next 4 weeks. I can say that I have heard the smugglers and they are next on my Lovin' list. But probably not between 7 and 8 given the schedule we are trying to keep. If I did promise this, I am sorry (and stupid...but that is a different problem).

Q: Alright, going for broke here.

Would a system that allowed specialization in a fighting style (ie Pistol, Carbine, Rifle, etc.) and other possible non-combat expertise be an idea if the points from it were earned by banking XP and cashing it in at an exchange rate? It would allow for a lot of customization in our characters and possibly give you guys a way to open up some more options to us without a huge elaborate system.

A: Wow...Can't give you an answer to that. This is definitely something I would leave up to Blix to propose. The buck may stop here, and I gladly accept responsibility for deciding if we should use a design or not. But it is his job to come up with them or present them. He is the design expert. And as I said before, We have a deal, I don't talk too much about design on the forums and he does not date my daughters.

Q: Any base info on what CH 9 might entail?

A: Not yet...But as I said in the note, we are going to be reworking our operational plan for next year to get more content flowing more quickly. Once we catch our breaths here from C7/C8 we will nail that down more and talk about it with the community.

Q: will bounty hunters be allowed to hunt in space?

A: That is not in the works for C8.

Q: DM are non combat related droid programs being removed from the timers in chapter 8?

and are you looking into improving some of the abilities of some of the ships like bwing, tie bomber, Rhix, krayt, almost all the freelance ships need a size reduction to be honest. So are you looking into those things as part of chapter 8?

A: I don't think we have any specific plans on droid timers. The general rule is that once we begin working with systems that we have not touched for awhile we tweak and improve where we can as opposed to having a laundry lits of things we will do. It just does not make sense until we really get into the guts of the systems. We also need to balance with the new ships we are adding and what effect they may have on the space game. Sorry. Not a specific answer I know, but the best I can give at this point.

Q: DM, thanks for spending so much time posting today. I think the community appreciates good conversational posts. Any chance we can see days like this more often (ie. once a week, twice a month, etc).

A: Most of the time, we just have a chance to scan the forums and make a few posts on a daily basis. The community team keeps us informed as hot issues come up, but our type of work requires focus and constantly answering posts really gets in the way of getting your job done. And really, your daily posts to the forums and your discussions represent a conversation with the devs. Granted, we are lurkers, but we do hear and it has its effect. But dev posting inevitably creates the illusion of an interactive conversation, and it is frustrating when you do not get a response, thinking I am dissing you, when in reality I am in a meeting or heads down in code.

Q: one more question from me, will you guys add atmoshperic flight to this game cause if you are trying to bring ground pounders into space knowing that the space community has been waiting for content FOR space for years now, it is only fair to add the space game to the ground as well.

so any atmospheric flight in the forseeable future.

A: Not in the general game, but we have had some talks of future heroics that could have a form of atmospheric flight. This definitely falls into the realm of 'we have thought about how it may work', not 'DeadMeat said we would have atmospheric flight in Chapter 9 and he is a big fat liar!".

Q: DeadMeat are we also going to see a change in the way the game handles POB ships in the following manner for CH 8?

<src img=http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd36/Azarakts/Example.jpg>

System message states: "You cannot launch another ship with an interior. Empty out one of your other ships and you may take off with this ship."
Currently this occurs when I have my Yatch and Y-8 Mining Vessel Decorated. Would like to also decorate my YT-1300, YT-2400, and future additional POB ships without this limitation.

There is currently a limit to the number of POB ships you can have in Datapad or used at Starship Terminal. Along with this as those that like to collect and decorate their POB ships we are left unable to have more then 1 decorated at any time (not including the Yatch).

Currently you can have both the Yatch decorated and one other POB ship you can use decorated but no more then that. So can it be possible to allow all POB ships that can be used by Ace Pilots to be available?

A: Lots of questions there. There are many reasons for the limitations you mention. No promises, but we will see what is possible. Unfortunately space PoB decorating has not been high on the proverbial list.

Q: Deadmeat,

I know I have posted this already but you may have missed it, Would this work at all ?

Now I know this may be heavy for a bit in man power, but I think it will sort itself out very quickly, Now currently as I understand it it is against policy but what if you allowed GM's to move people off of dead servers, I mean in fairness I am on one of those servers, and I danced for 3 hours sf in the biggest PvP zone, and saw not a single sole, that is pretty depressing to say the least.

But if GM's were allowed to move people and lets face it they can, even if it is a clone of them and there stuff on another server this would solve the problem.

I mean I have a lot of resources and cap most things if not all on my server with my traders but i would dump all those resources and start again to be part of an active server.

But one big thing you must allow Elder Jedi to keep there 3rd slot, that is a big big deal for a lot of players inculding me, weather you meant it or not there ours now.

I know you said you are going to look at this in the new year but right now the tiny server I am on is bleeding members leaving every day, and it is just getting worse.

A: The GM version of a move is no better than the move that can be accessed from the Web, which still does not move a lot of items as is stated on the page. What you describe just won't work with the size staff that CS has and the number of complaints if things went south would be huge. Any solution will require an automated approach or it will be a no-go I'm afraid.

I have waited and planned and built my strength for fifteen thousand years. I have evolved. It is time.

DeadMeat, list pilotom:

Nie.
