Folks,

As I posted in the announcement forum, We decided to postpone the Pack-up Event scheduled for Next Tuesday. I wanted to give some of the details here that would have made the announcement too wordy for the average player. There are two main things that are required to make house pack-up really work. Obviously all items in the house need to get into the packed player's datapad, but our game has many types of containment chains that all need to be working when a item is packed to make sure all contained items are also packed as well. Then there are a number of DB contortions to get it all working correctly, and some of those involve race conditions that meant that operations may happen in the wrong order and cause corruption of the DB. This all stems from the fact that the player whose house is packed is not online. We have solved these issues in most cases and are close on all the cases we could come up with. We think we have been pretty exhaustive in imagining all of the different possibilities that could arise, but in the end, you never know with an MMO until it is live. That is why we decided to go with the initial test on the old TestCenter.

We will still be pushing a hotfix next Tuesday to address some live issues and add some refinements to the game. We have also been smashing a ton of bugs during the bug-bash we have been doing for the last couple of weeks and we will be releasing that to the TestCenters soon along with the previously discussed changes to the Elite spawns in non-high adventure areas, improvements to the loots tables, and some other interesting surprises. These will be released to live as a chapter update as well (6.n), but we want to get plenty of testing on these before committing them to the live game.

We are very pleased with the success of C6 and the great player response. As you have probably noticed, server populations have been rising steadily for quite some time now, and there are a ton of new players and returning vets in the game. We will continue to strive for high quality chapters and updates to the game that bring about these types of positive player growth. And we will continue to work with the community to identify key areas for improvements in the game.

Have a great weekend!

DM

Q: Question for you, DM: Is the housepurge stuff superseding work on Ch7? I.e. do you need to be done with the purge to start work on Ch7 or are some already started on Ch7?

A: Nope...We are moving forward with design specs for C7. Most of the pack-up work is being done by engineering, so mostly it has delayed some of their bug-bash work.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=15&topic_id=360316#3987893

Q: DM just want to say thanks for at least making sure this happens with as little as bugs if any. Now after the house purge can you please address the following:

Free character transfers, some servers need these badly.

Profession balancing - I hope for chapter 7 you are working on getting smuggler, officer and spy issues addressed.

Animations - please for the love of god, the game looks horrible without these. You guys have a huge library of animations from the old combat systems. If you slow down combat 10-15% and get rid of the FPS control scheme you can do it. Make a poll and ask would you care to get rid of FPS for animations, i'm sure you'll be surprised to find out the answer is YES.

A: We are doing the infrastructure work necessary to support CTS in a free mode, but we have not as yet determined the best way to offer this.

Profession work is a continuing thing. We will have some updates that address some of this soonish©.

Animation and combat speed is a tough problem as I jave stated in the past. Simply slowing things down in a global way is not really an option since all of combat damage, specials, etc. is geared towards the current speed, and introducing a global slowdown would have numerous effects on the balance at this point. I am personally looking at the animations now to see what I can do to make them better.

Q: Hey DM,

In reference to your post in the Announcement forum...I have just one question..

What is a "Galazies"...lolSMILEY8)

Tyrn Vol (just giving you a hard time...)

A: Ouch...I mistakenly let the cat out of the bag on a new game, combining Star Wars themes and hunting long horned mammals!

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=15&topic_id=360316#3987991

Q: Thanks for the update.

How about you clone a Liver Server instead of using TC? This way you can get a feel for what a real server would be like and not one that has a ton of bugged frog items.

A: We thought about it, but that would mean limitations on which accounts could participate in the test and besides, the old TestCenter needs to bel cleaned up anyway.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=15&topic_id=360316#3988023

Q: So a new date has not been determined??

A: I certainly have one in mind SMILEY:-)...I just want to be very sure before announcing it and also I want to have the test go well first.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=15&topic_id=360316#3988096

Q: I am confused at how this would mess up things on a balance point. Just as you guys gave us this "Anniversary Cake" (+25 Movement) Why would increasing the speed not cause "numerous effects on the balance at this point?" You can increase the speed but you cant slow it down?

A: Normal combat and movement is driven by combat speed, while specials and such use the cooldowns. So much content and systems have been tuned towards the current speed. At any rate it is not a change I would introduce at this point without a lot of testing. I prefer to address the animations through actually working on the animations, not trying to reduce combat speed.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=30&topic_id=360316#3988162

Q: hey DM 2 questions:

1. can you tell us what the heroic encounters system will be like? is it original? is it the same type of questing we have seen in game so far?

2. will the exotic mods get fixed with the next coming hotfix?

A: The Heroic encounters will have a number of differences, although many of the mechanics of it are yet to be set in stone.

We have some fixes coming on exotic mods, but not in the next hotfix.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=30&topic_id=360316#3988217

Q: Quick question about the housing purge plz DM....

Will i be able to pack my mall up with mine and others vendors inside and replace it somewhere else without any loss of items & with all vendors working smoothly after its "replaced"?

The last time I read about the purge I understand there where some problems with vendors reverting to selling items for a set price and a limit to the number of items that could be listed. Have these issues been cleared up?

A: The plan is that Vendor pack-up will work smoothly and certainly with no item loss. We have addressed most of the outstanding issues with unpacked vendors.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=30&topic_id=360316#3988268

Q: What about buildings that are still flaged 'Abandoned' but is owned by an active account? I guildie of mine on Intrepid has a guild hall that he keeps renaming to remove the word 'Abandoned' with the character that owns the building yet within 2 hours the server changes it back and reflags it as such. He has put in tickets about it yet seems nothing is being done. The guild hall is in the player town currently known as Tyberia on Talus in the Intrepid server.

I hope there aren't to many of these cases still around where the account was reactivated or been active for several months and the flagging system is flawed.

A: Unflagging abandoned house is not automatic. When we update the servers before the event we will update the data that marks a house as abandoned. As long as the players is still subscribed at that point the abandoned flag will be removed. Also, renaming a house does not remove the data that tags it as abandoned.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=30&topic_id=360316#3988310

Q: DM as a returning vet, Id like to let you know that I love what you've done to the place SMILEY:)

But I know that a lot of people have been bugging you about a free CTS and I know you addressed it already in this thread, but my server is struggling with the concept that we've got a VERY LIGHT population and how this free CTS is nothing more than a rumor. Is there any way we can get the official word from the DeadMeat?! Please SMILEY:)

A: I wish I could be official about this, but I cannot be as yet. The first step is to just have it be possible. Once that happens, I can start working out if/how/when we can do it.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=30&topic_id=360316#3988347

Q:

A:

Odkaz:

Q: Hopefully chapter 8 has some jaw dropping stuff

Chapter 6 had nothing really. I'm sick and tire of having to a /forage to try and find a treasure map.

Seriously, why not have the treasure maps be given out as quest rewards from the Azure Cabal quest series?

Or is do this task 20,000 times supposed to be exciting new content?

Are Heoric mob's going to be the same old boring thing?

Is the Imperial Themepark going to give out armor schematics so that a spy can place camo in it? Or is the armor just going to be another decoration?

Sorry need to rant, but I might taking a break or leaving for good soon.

A: What can I say Helkish...I am sorry that C6 did not jazz you. Hopefully the upcoming chapters will be more to your liking.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=45&topic_id=360316#3988502

Q: Will there be any issue packing up with other peoples vendors in a structure that I own or would I have to get the owners of the other vendors to remove them 1st? Am sure you guys thought of this scenario....

A: That should work fine. But i would stress that if folks have items on vendors in structures that are abandoned they should be removed as soon as possible. Once they are packed, your items cannot be retrieved unless the player returns to the game and unpacks their their structure.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=45&topic_id=360316#3988578

Q: I have a question regarding the coming housing purge. In my travels throughout the galaxy I have been looking at the number of abandoned structures through out the galaxy. My concern is that I do not feel there are enough abandoned structures to be destroyed. Players who are interested in getting the rewards and badges will be left out.

Take for example our city. With over 220 structures within the city limits only 47 are "abandoned". With dozens of active players still living in the city each person might be able to destroy one or two. Even if only one third of them participated in the event it sill leaves less than a handful. This city has been around since player cities were introduced, and has been one of the largest cities on the planet for the past 2 years. So more than enough time to accumulate dead structures.

Again just by my driving through different planets I have found surprisingly low numbers of abandoned structures. Sure some areas have a lot more than others, yet others have far less.

I myself am very much looking forward to this event. I fear though that those who are not able to play 20 hours a week or more will be totally left out. Especially if the event starts on a Tuesday, by the time the weekend comes around all that will be left are the homes out in the middle of nowhere.

My question to you is: If this event takes off and participation is more than expected, will you be willing to add more abandoned structures?

A: Our math says that there are generally enough structures that folks can get a lot of the rewards. Moving forward we plan to have houses enter abandoned status automatically, although all of the parameters for that have yet to be defined. So people will be able to continue to pack-up abandoned structures past the end of this event.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=45&topic_id=360316#3988689

Q: You say you've been fixing bugs, but there are still some long standing bugs that have yet to be addressed. What's the best way for us, as players, to make sure that you are aware of the bugs, especially the ones that have been around longer and are not just due to a recent update, in the game that we keep noticing, but we're not sure whether you know about it or when you'll fix it?

A: The best way to get attentions on real bugs in the game is to use the /bug functionality. This will flag QA, they will try and reproduce it and they do it will be added to the database. Many of the most visible and most desired bugs are part of our current bug-bash so hopefully you will be pleased when those updates go out.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=60&topic_id=360316#3988761

Q: hey DM, just how many people have started playing since chapter 6 was announced? a little, alot, a whole lot?

A: I cannot give the actual number, but I can say we have 'thousands of new subscribers'. Also the simultaneous users (the number of players online at any given time) has also risen by thousands as well.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=60&topic_id=360316#3988775

Q: I have a question about abandoned structures. Will all admins on a structure be notified before a structure becomes listed as abandoned? What if we don't know the exact status on a structure that we're admin on, but it's not listed as abandoned. Then suddenly one day it clicks on as abandoned and someone comes along and flags it, and then next time we go by to use it it's suddenly not there anymore?

At least now we do have the chance to see which buildings are marked as abandoned, but if they can suddenly change status in the future, then someone else might be able to send it to pack up before we know there's a problem or can preserve anything we might want to save from it.

A: It will definitely happen in stages so you should have plenty of time to move your stuff.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=75&topic_id=360316#3989306

Q: DM- I am not sure if this has been answered previously, but on the server Bria, Talus has an enormous amount of lag. This was also the case before ch6. It makes combat almost a joke due to the fact that you cannot accurately tell where your opponents health is at as well as your own. Is this a known issue thats being worked on? I seriously doubt I would be the first to put it out there.

A: This is being worked on as we speak...I believe that we have made some discoveries that will mitigate a lot of the problems.

Odkazy:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=75&topic_id=360316#3989558

Q: How many of those are credit farmers?

A: That is also being worked on as we speak SMILEY:-)...The Empire is not amused!

Q: but those trial accoutns arent in your count for new players is it?

A: Nope.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=75&topic_id=360316#3989594

Q: hey DM whats the chances we could see some clean up of houses "camping" poi areas ? And has there been any thoughts about extending no build zones, for example around the static pvp bases especially the one on talus where some player houses are actually inside the pvp zone. Or setting up special build zones around the npc cities to try to "control" player houseing so that we can all avoid the problems and issues we currently have with player houses. I noticed that the for the most part the rebel theme park missions go to the old static battlefields....it seems that these are some of the last few 'clean' areas where new quest zones/dungeons can be set up. I hope may be that the dev team is considering makeing plans to create larger no build zones for players to try to maintain some area across all planets for future quests and content.

Also I'm concerned that much hasnt been said about the Imperial theme park update.

A: We are looking at the no-build zones.

We will be giving more details on the Theme Park as the designs are more fleshed out.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=90&topic_id=360316#3990035

Q: I know it's not SOE policy - But in regards to the rising servers...

Is there ANY way we can get a confirmation that the increasing numbers are indeed new (or returning) players who are actually Subscribing versus just a lot of returns to a Trial?

I know quite a few Vets that are watching the forums, and would consider returning IF the increases are at least partially long term - But don'tr want to bother if this is just a bunch of trial members who'll be gone in 14 days or less.

A: Yep...These are rising subscriber counts which are the best indicators. Simultaneous usage we do not track breaking out trials, but their contribution would be fractional and the number of Trial accounts active has not changed significantly during this period.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=90&topic_id=360316#3990085

Q: Could you give us somehting to gage the "thousands of new subscribers" comment? Maybe something like servers are close to where they were Pre-CU. or Servers population are at CU levels... anything but vagueness would be nice to keep us old vets encouraged.

A: The best I can say is that all quantitative measures are markedly up. I think most vets would call a definite foul if I made any statement that implied we are anywhere near our peak sub numbers for this product. It is a four year-old MMO after all and there is a lot of competition in the market.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=90&topic_id=360316#3990244

Q: Recently there was a report from a pretty good source that showed that SWG is under 50k subs. Why can't you guys just be like a lot of the other major MMO companies and release your numbers. What are you hiding? Is it lower than 50k and you guys just don't want to be a laughing stock? Because that is what many of are thinking since you refuse to release the numbers.

A: I think I am safe in saying the 50K number is vastly wrong.

And this is the last question on this subject I will post in this thread. Regardless of numbers, the best measure of a game is how much you like it. One of our goals is to keep people coming into the game, and we will always be looking to do that. But I think what you all really care about is the enjoyment you get out of it.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=105&topic_id=360316#3990461

Q: DM, would it at all be possible to upgrade the servers? Or at least clean them up a bit? The servers can barely handle mass pvp. Remember the restuss event? Everyone was lagging and a few servers even crashed.

A: We are always looking to improve the performance on the servers and we find ways we can do that all the time. I wish I could say we can throw all new hardware at the game but that is not budgeted this year. The problem with the Restuss event was mostly a bug that we addressed after it was spotted on the first couple of clusters that kicked it off. Can we do better at optimizing this game? You bet, and we will.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=105&topic_id=360316#3990522

Q: DM, can you tell us whether there are plans to do more with the PvP smuggler missions so that we are useful in some way to the wider SWG community, rather than just content for smugglers and BHs?

There is quite a bit of discussion about things that could be done to provide more opportunities for all players to want to have smugglers around.

A: This is one of the questions I leave to Blix. I have read the discussions but I do not know what his thinking is on this as a future addition. I honestly want to keep him focused on C7 and current systems.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=105&topic_id=360316#3990557

Q: Quick question about the guild upgrades. Is that slated for chapter 7?

A: The Guild changes we have planned, which are really only meant to allow you to access guild functionality outside of the guild hall, should be out before long before C7. We have nothing planned in terms of vastly changing or enhancing the current guild system.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=105&topic_id=360316#3990611

Q: Hi DM. In cp 7 the Imp park will be re done. Will there be a new badge even for players thet did the park pre cu/cu?

And what abut the village? Any thing abut thet? Atm it just stands there not been use at all. A shame i say. I know many vet players thet whod love to revisit thet place.

A: Not sure on the badge question. The Village is very buggy and we stated at the Summit that we would probably not be trying to 'fix' it. Blix would rather do something totally new, and I agree.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=105&topic_id=360316#3990645

Q: Thanks DM, your team is doing a great job. The communication has been terrific. I came back to the game when I first heard about Chapt 6 (about 4 weeks before 6 I think). The changes to the game and the list of things coming are all very welcome!

I know everyone is bombarding questions, I will add one as well. Has there been any work or thought done on adding searchables to the bazaar like CL, Damage Type, etc (i.e. so someone could search for a bracelet for a lvl 50 player with + luck or new weapon for a lvl 30 with elemental damage). I know it isn't the biggest thing in the game, but wonder if it is still on the radar somewhere.

Thanks again!

P.S. I know the guilds on Bria are really jumping, can't speak for other severs, may log into Kettemoor to see how they are doing.

A: I know the DevH would love to do this...Hopefully we will find the time to let him SMILEY:-).

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=120&topic_id=360316#3990685

Q: Oy Dm,

First, thank you for all of your hard work and dedicating your time to answer our questions.

I would like to know if in your bug bash will the space reactor issue be addressed? It's really frustrating looting lv8 and above reactors with less than 14k regen consistently. and having like lv 10 reactors dropping with worse stats than lv 1 ones!!

Thanks,

Omegarising

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=120&topic_id=360316#3990759

Q: Well if naritus is anything to go by, a year or so ago I could quite safely go to coronet and guarantee there would not have been anyone there a good 80% of the time. Recently returning to my live server, it is nice to see people milling around running about through old spacestations, usually I'd encounter a handful of people. Not many but significantly more than a year or so ago.

But there is also the fact we're coming up towards the summer break for many schools and educational establishments worldwide. Thus more people play games. What will be really telling about our subscription numbers is come september and october when people are all back at school etc etc.

However I am glad you see the vast amount of competition out there, and one concern I have is still over this need to copy WoW. Take for example the Elite and Boss icons. What the heck was wrong with R2-D2 and Darth Vader icons we saw on TC? Why was there a need to change something "star warsy" into something which is more or less just ripped from WoW with the stupid golden claw. Sorry if I came from another game to play something different, I don't think I want to play something that reminds me of a game I played in the past.

Beyond that, keep up with the communictional posts on the forum, this approach is instilling much more confidence you guys down there in having a direction for the game unlike in the past. SMILEY:)

A: We really did struggle with this. We wanted to avoid factional associations and we had very few pixels to work with. We tried a number of things and chose the Rancor claw because it was recognizable in terms of pixel budget, was not factional, and implied threat. R2D2 looked good, but did not give you a feeling of danger that should be associated with a elite or boss. We may change it again. It was a last minute thing due to the fact that their seemed to be a lot of confusion on how to recognize a boss or elite and with C6 it was important.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=120&topic_id=360316#3990798

Q: Is there anything in the pipe to help player cities, One of the best things in this game is building a city. I would love to see new city decorations like walls or even just new buildings.

A: Perhaps...We really have not fully scheduled out C7 and there are a lot of art requirements for the new Mobs. We will have to see.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=120&topic_id=360316#3990841

Q: When will we start to see results of the bug bash? So far, we've had a hotfix (or two?) that have been fairly limited and I'm confident aren't part of your vision of eliminating a bunch of long-standing bugs.

Or is that not yet happening while the housing purge is still pending?

A: I would give you a headache if I tried to explain the branching system for our configuration management system, but yes, partly the delay is due to the pack-up and not wanting to muddy the testing waters with a lot of unrelated code. We will be moving the bug-bash items onto test as soon as we can get the pack-up code fully QA'd.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=135&topic_id=360316#3990896

Q: Deadmeat,

I was wondering what future plans you may have regarding the Beast Master system. Like as far as adding more specials and other things to make each pet more unique, more mutants, etc.

Rick

A: Ah...That again is a Blix question. He loves the Beast Master system and I would not be surprised if he added enhancements down the road. I wish I had a tidbit to drop on that...

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=135&topic_id=360316#3991101

Q: Thanks for answering my first question. i have another reguarding player cities, and mayors. Are there any plans to give mayors more options or commands over their city?

A: We really do not have anything planned like that in the near term. We think what players do with their cities is pretty cool and would love to enhance the system, but the types of powers that many mayors are looking for are really difficult from a service perspective since they give one player some level of control over another players stuff. It would be a CS nightmare.

Some more benign powers could be added to the system in the future, but as I said it is not on the current hot list.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=150&topic_id=360316#3991167

Q: Perhaps I wasn't very clear in my earlier post but I would appreciate an answer on whether the removal of tricks from mounts is a bug and if so is there a fix in the works. I don't think a red name has responded to this particular issue. If so my bad.

A: Sorry...Yes it was specifically removed. Tricks are now for beasts.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=150&topic_id=360316#3991172

Q: Since you are around ... With the Reb theme park (and I'm assuming the Imp will be the same) you put a lot of new stuff in the old battlegrounds, most likely because it was already marked as no-build. Can you look into removing that stupid marker circle around the battlegrounds? It no longer seems to serve a purpose and looks a little ridiculous when all new locations / bunkers have this circle around them.

A: Seems reasonable...Have not looked into what it would take though.

Odkaz: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=150&topic_id=360316#3991349

Q: Firstly, thank you for the great communication you and your team are doing and also on the successfull chapter 6!

I play on Infinity European and i have definately noticed an increase in players lately, this is very encouraging and important. I have one small, but to me, major about the possibility of a *free* CTS period.

I was one of the lucky vets to gain a 3rd character slot and have spent the majority of my time since the launch of the NGE building this character up with time and effort. *If* we do get a free period of CTS, i would love to jump to Chimera, i hear its booming!

Has the issue of the 3rd character slot been raised with transferring servers? As it stands now we would loose 1 character, and possibly 2 by transferring!!!

Are you guys aware of it is what i would like to know.

Thanks in advance.

A: Hmmm...I was not actually aware of that particular issue, but knowing how that slot works, I am not surprised it is unfriendly to the CTS. The best I can say is that I will look into it. I agree it is something that you should be able to move.

Q: DM,

A quick question for you... would it be possible to allow Jedi Elders to wear backpacks?

Having such a small inventory really gets in the way when PvE'ing. If there are problems with the artwork, I'm sure no one would complain if we could equip backpacks without them showing on the character (would look cooler that way too).

Thanks!

A: Honestly not sure what the status of Jedi backpacks are. We do not want to introduce too many invisible items (it is definitely an art issue), but I understand the desire here.

Q: DM,

With regards to elite mods, and specifically dodge, could you comment on:
1) Is the combo for dodge ACTUALLY in the game?
2) A timetable on fixing elite mods?

Just seems counterproductive to have these new combat skill mods put in the game (sort of), yet they're either bugged or not available for enhancement by the players. Seems like that would be a number 1 priority.

Thanks for your time.

A: I am honestly not sure what you mean by "combo for dodge".

Most changes and fixes to the mods are part of the bug-bash and will be released before C7 after they have been run though the TC's.

I have waited and planned and built my strength for fifteen thousand years. I have evolved. It is time.
